Dead Websites Are Scary. Yours Doesn’t Have to be One of Them.

Haunted House

In the spirit of Halloween, we whipped up this spooky infographic. Our goal is to help you understand what makes a website dead and why dead websites give people the heebie-jeebies.

If you’ve got a dead website, don’t be scared. We can help you bring it back to life!

Dead websites are:

1. As unresponsive as a corpse.Dead website

According to Smart Insights, more than 20% of Google searches are performed on mobile devices. For local searches, that number jumps to more than 50%. Dead websites scare users away because they don’t render appropriately on small devices.

2. Slower than a zombie.

Does your current website take a long time to load? If so, you could be losing customers. According to KISSmetrics, 47% of visitors expect a website to load in 2 seconds or less. And about 40% of people will leave a site that takes more than 3 seconds to load. The only good thing about dead websites being slower than a zombie? At least living people can outrun them!

3. Lost in the dark.

When was the last time you updated your site with valuable, relevant content? If it’s been a while, chances are your site is not coming up in the search engines. Dead websites are lost in the dark—and Google really likes it when the lights are on. So if Google can’t find you, that means potential customers can’t find you either.

4. Look old and abandoned, like that house at the edge of town…

Websites should go through a redesign at least every two to five years. So if it’s been a while since your last redesign, your site probably looks outdated (compared to competitor sites). Dead websites look stale and outdated. They leave visitors wondering if a company still lives there or if it’s been abandoned.
